Its 2025, right? Because looking around, it definitely seems like the 90s are making headlines this year. Jurassic Park and Mission: Impossible are adding new installments to their franchises, Green Day just headlined Coachella, and Noah Wylie is starring in a new medical drama. If you’re a 90s kid, this may be a welcome wave of nostalgia. It’s clear from their new release that Low Phase also has a soft spot for the 90s. Their new track is as much a sonic love letter to 90s alternative rock as it is a song about love.

Low Phase, a Michigan-based indie rock quartet, has spent the last two years crafting their new EP. The band, which has created a unique style of indie rock in their five years together, has taken inspiration from alt rock legends in their latest offering, “Reason” which drops on streaming services today.

The track, a vulnerable look at dependence in a relationship, marks a slight shift in their sound. While alt rock has always been an influence on their sound, they’ve made a decision to lean into the genre more. This song feels grittier in some ways than the rest of their catalog, with a focus on driving bass lines and overdriven guitars. But, it also retains the hallmarks of their music: solid musicianship, raw lyrics, and melodies that beg you to sing along. The band has managed to create a rich, vibrant sound that pays homage to the legends of alt rock, while still maintaining the elements that make their sound so uniquely theirs.

If “Reason” is a preview of the band’s forthcoming EP, fans have a lot to be excited about.
